SDLP South Belfast MLA Conall McDevitt has welcomed Minister Danny Kennedy's decision to commission a feasibility study into a new cycling and pedestrian bridge over the Lagan at the Gasworks.

Mr McDevitt said: "This is tremendous news for South Belfast. The local community has been campaigning for many years for this bridge.

"Runners, walkers and cyclists will also warmly welcome the opportunity to have the Ormeau park and gasworks connected.

"I hope Minister Kennedy continues to drive this project. We need the feasibility study completed, the money identified, planning secured and the new bridge built as soon as possible."
