Fine Gael Meath East TD, Helen McEntee, has welcomed the announcement that almost €200,000 is being provided for the restoration of St. John's Church in Nobber.

The Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan TD, has given sanction for Meath Partnership to approve funding of €196,934 to St John's Old Cemetery Restoration Group for the restoration of St. John's Church under the conservation and upgrading of the rural heritage measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

She said: "This is fantastic news for all of those who have worked so hard to get the restoration project underway at St John's Church, and I have no doubt that this announcement will be warmly welcomed by the local community in Nobber.

"The project has a total cost of €262,579, so this funding approved under the Rural Development Programme will go a long way to bringing it to completion. A considerable amount of work has already been carried out on the interior and exterior of the church, but this funding will allow for the overhaul of the church to be completed. This will include the installation of new windows, the restoration of the floors and the inclusion of a new entrance hall."
