Dublin Labour MEP, Emer Costello, has today welcomed the submission to Dublin City Council for a new Docklands hub for shipping.
Mr Costello said: "This is an exciting proposal, with the prospect of creating 3,500 jobs in the Docklands.
"Ireland already has an internationally-renowned Financial Services Sector on the Liffey, right beside the thriving Dublin Port, from where two-thirds of Ireland's shipping operates.
"This is an ideal location for a new hub which would build on our experience in the financial services, shipping and aviation sectors.
"Already NAMA are targeting the Docklands with a one billion euro development programme which will provide new commercial infrastructure.
"Ireland already has the expertise to build on the success of our international leasing services. As an aviation hub we are responsible for approximately half the global leasing of aircraft according to the IDA."
