Rock Shopfitting Services May Be Forced To Shut Down

SDLP Foyle MLA, Colum Eastwood, has met with employees from Rock Shopfitting Services who visited Parliament Buildings.

Rock, who employ over 100 workers in the greater North West, are facing the threat of closure after the withdrawal of their main contract from Tesco.

Rock have claimed that Tesco have actively engaged in recruiting companies from outside of Ireland to refit their stores and implement range changes.


The Foyle MLA commented: "I have now had the opportunity to meet with Rock and its employees a number of times since the withdrawal of their main contract from Tesco.

"I would appeal to Tesco to abide by their own stated objectives of employing local companies where feasible. These are 100 local employees who have served the needs of Tesco over a long period.

"Corporate responsibility is ultimately the understanding that we live in a society as well as an economy. True value stems from the health of this interwoven relationship."
