Plans For Palliative Care Centre On Track

Fine Gael Roscommon/South Leitrim TD, Frank Feighan, has said that plans for an eight-bed Palliative Care Centre at Roscommon County Hospital are well on track following total funding approval of €14m by Mayo/Roscommon Hospice for this development and a similar project in Mayo.

Mr Feighan said: "Last Thursday, the Board of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice ring-fenced €14m in total funding for two major palliative care developments, including the Roscommon project which will be developed on the grounds of the County Hospital.

"This €14m has been secured to significantly progress both projects and, all going well, I understand that the Roscommon Hospice Care project should be ready for planning in just over a year's time.

"The 12,000 square foot centre will not just provide for inpatient care but will also house a palliative day-care service, family support and bereavement services while also serving as a base for the existing community palliative home care team.

"This state-of-the art development will finally address the critical lack of an in-patient hospice/palliative care facility in County Roscommon. When complete, the centre will enable patients with life-limiting illnesses to access expert in-patient help locally.

"The ring-fenced €14m is made up of €8m in fundraising with the balance comprising of bank borrowings. I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Mayo/Roscommon Hospice for its wonderful range of services, provided free of charge to all."
