Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has set out Roads Service's progress on investment totalling £3.1m for road improvement and maintenance schemes in the Newtownabbey area this year.
The Minister said: "A wide range of road improvement and maintenance schemes is planned or already complete in the Newtownabbey Borough Council area.
"Work on the A2 Shore Road, Greenisland scheme commenced in March 2013 and the construction phase is well underway. The site has been cleared, excavation of earth works carried out and construction of accommodation works is ongoing at many adjacent properties.
"Work also recently commenced on the £205,000 carriageway resurfacing improvement scheme at Antrim Road/Sandyknowes. This is an essential maintenance scheme within the Newtownabbey Borough area. The scheme will improve the driving conditions and extend the life span of the existing roads."
