SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins has welcomed the decision to complete essential maintenance work on the wall at Culmore Point Road in L'Derry.

At a special meeting of the Environmental Committee, it was agreed by Derry City Council, Rivers Agency, Loughs Agency and Roads Service that the retaining wall at the 'Bay' area of Culmore Point Road will receive essential maintenance work.

Councillor Dobbins said: "It was pointed out that although this wall was not a sea defence wall, its current state of erosion and disrepair was a contributing factor to the flooding problems at Culmore Point Road.

"It was noted by the attending statutory bodies that if maintenance was not given a priority, further problems would arise."
