Green Party local election candidate for Cork, Dan Boyle, is seeking to raise awareness of the poor air quality in Cork today.
Speaking this morning, Mr Boyle said: "At 5pm yesterday the Environmental Protection Agency, through its air monitoring web site, showed Cork City to be the only area in the country experiencing poor air quality. The historical data is also showing Cork City having the worst air quality in Ireland.
"There is need for more detailed explanation and information. The EPA has the data and should make it more publicly available. However, I'm curious that Cork City Council is not playing a stronger role in terms of informing the public.
"Having worked to improve air quality over the years, if we are seeing the re-emergence of a trend of deteriorating air quality, it needs to be nipped in the bud, with the public being fully involved and made properly aware of the risks involved."
