Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has launched a public policy consultation on proposals for new water and sewerage legislation.

The Minister said: "I am launching a consultation today on legislative proposals to improve how we deliver water and sewerage services.

"With the extreme weather conditions over the last few years, it is vital that my Department does everything it can to protect people, homes and businesses. That is why I am proposing to introduce measures to ensure developers construct sewers to appropriate standards, to reduce the amount of surface water entering the public sewerage network and to address issues with supply pipes connecting the public water mains network to private properties.

"These are important proposals that affect everyone in Northern Ireland and so I am encouraging people to take part in the consultation and give their views."
