A farmer from Randalstown has been fined after pleading guilty for a pollution offence.
Mr Samuel McCracken was fined £500, £22 in court costs and an offenders levy of £15.
On 30 August 2013, Water Quality Inspectors inspected an unnamed tributary of the River Maine at Portglenone Road, Randalstown and observed the waterway to be brown in colour and foul smelling. The source of the polluting discharge was traced to a farm owned by Mr McCracken.
A sample taken at the time of the incident confirmed that the discharge contained poisonous, noxious or polluting matter which was potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving waterway.
