A €30 million water treatment facility in Leixlip has officially opened.
The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, and the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Mags Murray opened the water treatment plant expansion hosted by Irish Water.
The new facility will provide water treatment capacity of an additional 80 million litres of water per day for consumers in the Greater Dublin supply area, bringing overall production at Leixlip to 215 million litres per day.
Mr Hogan TD said: "The rapid growth of residential and commercial development in the catchment area created a critical situation whereby an increase in water demand outstripped supply. The additional capacity provided by this new plant is vital to meet the current water demand whilst also providing capacity to meet future development needs."
