92% of buildings in Ireland have received an A/B rating according to figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The Building Energy Rating (BER) was introduced by the Green Party.
Eamon Ryan, Green Party Leader, said: "The statistics from the CSO show that we still need to do more in improving our housing stock – 56% of the houses built between 1978 and 1999 still have a D rating or worse. The Green Party started tackling that problem by massively increasing the level of retrofitting of existing buildings, but the current government has cut in half that labour intensive activity. It's time for the government to look again at the policies and measures introduced by the Greens in government and build on the success we achieved."
