An Innov-X hand held X-Ray Fluorescent (XRF) Analyzer has been stolen from a van in a hotel car park in Dundalk, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has announced.
The device, used for analysing the properties of metals, soils, liquids and coatings, was stored in a black case.
The device, which requires a security password to be entered before it can be turned on and incorporates a safety interlock, cannot generate any X-rays when it is powered off. However, if the safety features of the device are overridden and the device is used by untrained individuals then there is a risk of exposure to radiation.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Gardai.
