The green light has been given for the Belfast Waterfront to undergo a £29.5 million extension.
The proposed extension will provide new conference and exhibition facilities augmenting the existing Belfast Waterfront and incorporating multi-functional spaces, ancillary dining facilities, offices and storage space.
Construction work is to begin shortly and it is expected to be complete by early 2016.
The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Nichola Mallon, welcomed the decision to grant planning approval. She said: "This is another important step for us and our partners in delivering world-class facilities and job creation opportunities for Belfast.
"By doubling the existing convention and exhibition space at Belfast Waterfront, we can build upon what is already a huge growth area for our economy and showcase Belfast as a destination of choice for conference organisers and delegates."
