The announcement was made at a celebration event in Holywood Arches attended by all the agencies involved in the project, Belfast City Council, East Belfast Partnership, the Big Lottery Fund, Department of Social Development and the Department of Agriculture and Regional Development Rivers Agency.

Farrans has been awarded the multi-million pound contract for Phase 2 of the Community Greenway which will see the construction of the remaining 13kms of walking and cycling paths to both Cregagh Glen and the Braniel, a C.S. Lewis themed civic square at Holywood Arches, improvements to rivers and new flood defences, new and improved bridges and crossings and new play areas at Avoniel and Loop River Parks.
The Connswater Community Greenway was developed by the East Belfast Partnership which secured the funding for the project, and is a partner in the greenway delivery.
