The Finance Committee is to examine the funding structure of Irish Water.
The decision follows a motion proposed by Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD at a meeting of the Oireachtas committee.
Deputy Doherty feels it is "crucial" for the committee to look at the facts and figures rather than through the lens of political spin.
He said: "We need to determine, in a critical manner, the credibility of the 'off balance sheet' approach taken by the government and how that actually sits in relation to EU rules.
"The Government has been less than clear about the funding mechanism. They have failed to answer questions from Sinn Féin in any credible way. Their approach to replying to questions and providing information has lacked accountability, transparency and precise communication.
"I have been very frustrated by the complete absence of civic responsibility on what is a very important issue. It is at the very heart of the whole water services debacle.
"I very much welcome the decision of the Finance Committee to support my motion. We must now set about getting clear answers to crucial questions as soon as possible."
