An SDLP MLA has written to the Transport Minister asking him to urgently address the issue of street lighting in Northern Ireland.

Joe Byrne MLA said it is important that people feel safe when they are going about their everyday business.

He said: "The street lighting outside St Patrick's Church in Drumquin is one typical example. Parish Priest, Father Kevin Mullan, said himself it is extremely dangerous for those coming to and from evening masses. Many of the congregation park along the road and cross over to visit the graves of loved ones. This is a safety issue."
