Significant progress is being made on plans to develop a Technological University in Dublin.

Labour TD, Joanna Tuffy, welcomed the positive assessment given by an international independent panel on the plans.

She said: "This new University would play an instrumental role in building on the great work done by this government in creating a highly skilled, well trained workforce. Many students from my constituency are attending the three colleges, Dublin Institute of Technology, the Institute of Technology in Blanchardstown and the Institute of Technology in Tallaght.

"All three institutions provide a very strong provision of part time programmes and this can be enhanced in the new University. It would also provide the three amalgamated Institutes with opportunities to grow their collaborations with higher education institutions across in Europe, and in places like China and Brazil."
