A new Critical Care Unit at the Mid-West Regional Hospital has opened.

Labour TD for Limerick City and Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O'Sullivan TD, welcomed the opening and said it is an important addition to the Regional Hospital.

She said: "I know that during today's visit Minister Varadkar will be speaking with staff at the Regional and viewing the complex. I have spoken to the Minister on several occasions about the need to achieve definite progress on a new Emergency Department.

"A significant amount of the capital work on this project has been put in place. It is imperative that this progress is maintained and that the new Emergency Department is opened as soon as possible."
