200 Extra Housing Staff To Be Employed By Local Authorities

The Minister for Environment has given the go-ahead for 200 extra housing staff to be employed by local authorities.

Labour TD Brendan Ryan welcomed the announcement by Minister Alan Kelly and commended his actions at tackling the housing crisis with "great vigour".

Mr Ryan said: "Over half of these appointments – 114 in total – will be deployed in the four Dublin local authorities, including 28 in my own local authority area of Fingal.

"Increasing the internal resources of local authorities is key to tackling the housing crisis and for public representatives like myself, it was clear that local authorities have been acting with stretched resources in this time of crisis.

"Hopefully these positions can be filled quickly and will be to the benefit of the many people on the housing list and for those in emergency accommodation."
