Only four properties in South County Dublin have been bought under the Mortgage-to-Rent scheme which was introduced in 2012, it has been revealed.
The figures were revealed following a Parliamentary Question submitted by Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Deputy Pearse Doherty.
Sinn Féin councillor Cathal King said the scheme is "fatally flawed" and needs to be reformed.
He said: "This scheme was launched to help struggling families to stay in their homes and these shockingly low figures demonstrate that this government's Mortgage-to-Rent scheme is fatally flawed and needs to be reformed in order to meet its original aims. The fact that only four families have benefitted from this scheme in South Dublin illustrate that little is being done to help people to stay in their homes."
