SDLP Welcomes Gas To West Scheme

The new Gas to West scheme, part of a major extension of the natural gas network in Northern Ireland, has been welcomed by the SDLP.

The new project aims to provide an extra 40,000 people with new energy options.

SDLP Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone said it is good news for customers living in the west and for the economy more generally.


Mr McGlone said: "The green light for the extension of the natural gas network will help grow energy infrastructure throughout the North as well as helping to create jobs west of the Bann. It’s important that we provide a range of options to customers and create more competition in the supply of home heating providers.

"It's important now that we see further development of the energy market in the North, including advances in the electricity grid which is proving a major obstacle for investment in communities in the West. The SDLP is committed to tackling the gross regional economic imbalance and will continue to work toward this end."
