Part 8 planning permission has been lodged with the Dublin City Council and the refurbishment works are due to be completed by early next year, in time for the 1916 centenary.
Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Central, Catherine Byrne, said: "€3.5 million has been allocated for this restoration project. It is a good news story, a very positive project for the area, and I commend everyone who has put so much work into this restoration project to date.

"I recently brought the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys to Richmond Barracks and she got a great appreciation of the historical significance of the building. Richmond Barracks is the location where the leaders of the 1916 Rising were court-martialled before their execution in Kilmainham Gaol. It is a highly significant historical site and is clearly valued by the people of Inchicore and wider Dublin.”"
