Sinn Féin has announced it is against the building of an incinerator in Hightown, Mallusk.
Residents in the Mallusk area have raised concern at the lack of decisive action on the part of the Environment Minister, Mark H Durkan regarding the proposal to site an incinerator in their midst.
Cllr Declan Kearney said: "Sinn Féin remains absolutely determined in our opposition to the proposal, and in our support for the No Arc21 campaign group.
"I want to pay tribute to the tenacity of those local people who have spearheaded the anti-incinerator campaign. It is only through their dignified and steadfast determination that we have arrived at the point where this plan can be stopped; it is now over to the Minister to act and finally take this planning proposal off the books.
"Any reasonable appraisal of the incinerator proposal shows that it is fundamentally flawed. On grounds of public health safety it is clearly an unacceptable high risk project; it also fails to measure up to even the most basic economic scrutiny."
