The Minister of Finance has officially launched the Living City Initiative, a scheme of property tax incentives which applies in certain 'Special Regeneration Areas' (SRAs) in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny.
The areas have been designated for the purposes of the scheme by Minister Michael Noonan.
The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, said: "This regeneration scheme has the potential to help protect our architectural heritage and, crucially, to encourage sustainable development and the re-use of our urban historic areas.
"The Living City Initiative complements policy developments in my Department, such as the Historic Towns Initiative (HTI) and the publication of Shaping the Future – Case Studies in the Adaptation and Reuse in Historic Urban Environments, a guidance manual aimed at the re-use of protected structures."
