A farmer from L'Derry has been fined over £1,000 for a pollution offence.
John Allingham, Whitehill Road, Eglinton pleaded guilty and was fined £1,200 for causing a discharge of agricultural effluent to enter a waterway.
He was also ordered to pay court costs of £15.
On 3 June 2014, a Water Quality Inspector, acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, examined the Muff River at Brookview Estate and observed heavy fungus covering the bed of the stream.
The Inspector detected an agricultural odour from the watercourse. The discharge was traced to farm premises owned by Mr Allingham.
A sample taken at the time of the incident confirmed that the discharge contained high Biochemical Oxygen Demand and high Total Ammonia, Suspended Solids and Chloride contents.
