Galway City Council has partnered with Irish Water to replace over 14km of watermains in Carraroe.

An assessment of all the watermains in County Galway identified the sections of mains that are the highest priority for replacement due to their high leakage rates, poor condition, carrying capacity and water quality issues. The 14.3km section of watermains in Carraroe has been prioritised for replacement as part of the assessment.

Irish Water has commenced a tendering process which will take up to two months to complete. A project start date of December 2015 is anticipated with works expected to take 20 months. A carefully managed traffic management plan will be put in place to minimise disruption to the public during the scheduled works. This includes time constraints on the contractor in relation to any potential lane closures, road closures and water service disruptions. Different construction techniques (e.g. trenchless technology) will also be used where possible which will also minimise disruptions in service for customers.
