The Government is to examine and review the impacts of property price increases on the local property tax.
A review of the system conducted by Dr Don Thornhill is currently ongoing.
Fine Gael TD for Meath East, Regina Doherty said its purpose is to make recommendations on changes that might be made to the system to ensure stability for homeowners.
She said: "In parts of the country, including Co. Meath property values have increased significantly. However it is important to remember that the current rates are in effect until 2017. After that I am confident that no excessive burden will arise for homeowners when the recommendations of the review are implemented."
