€22.9 million has been invested in the plants at Abbyleix, Durrow, Mountrath, Rathdowney and Stradbally, as well as upgrade works to the wastewater network at each of the towns and at Clonaslee.
€9.5 million has been spent on the wastewater treatment plants and €13.4 million on upgrades to the sewerage network.

Vincent Angland, Capital Delivery Lead at Irish Water, said: "The wastewater capacity in these towns in Laois has come under significant pressure in recent years due to the continuous growth of the region.
"The upgrades carried out by Irish Water provide essential environmental improvements, but also have a significant positive impact on the continuing growth and development potential of these towns.
"Each town now has a robust sustainable wastewater system in place that can maintain compliance with the environmental standards set by the EPA."
