Building Work Begins On Housing Development In Rathcoole

Building work has started on a new development in Rathcoole, Newtownabbey, for Helm Housing.

The new social housing project at Derrfin Park will provide 18 semi-detached houses and 12 apartments for families and older people. The two-storey apartments, eight of which are designed specifically for active older people, are on schedule for completion in April 2016, with the family housing due for completion in August 2016.

The total scheme cost will be in the region of £3million.

The Department for Social Development will fund £1.7million in housing association grant through the Housing Executive and Helm Housing will contribute £1.3million through private borrowing. The new homes are being built to high energy efficiency specifications.
