Public Urged To Attend Right2Water National Demonstration

Sinn Féin is urging the public to attend the Right2Water National Demonstration to be held in Dublin on Saturday 29 August.

Sinn Féin TD Jonathan O'Brien is calling on all those opposed to water charges and Irish Water to make the trip to Dublin.

The Cork North Central TD said: "We have an opportunity to send this government the loudest message yet that the opposition and resistance to water charges is as strong as ever. It hasn't gone anyway and it won't go away until the charges are scrapped and Irish Water is abolished.

"We now see residents of communities throughout Cork City blocking Irish Water from entering their neighbourhoods to install water meters. From Leesdale and Curraheen to Togher and Glanmire, residents have joined together to protest against what is a failed government policy. The government should listen to these communities and reverse its position.

"The establishment of Irish Water and the imposition of water charges has been a fiasco from the start. People in these communities are standing up and saying enough is enough."
