Holiday resort firm Center Parcs has submitted a planning application for a €233m development near Ballymahon, Co Longford.
750 construction jobs are expected to created and 1,000 permanent jobs as soon as it is fully operational.
Fianna Fáil TD for Longford – Westmeath Robert Troy welcomed the news.
Deputy Troy said: "This investment highlights the potential that exists to grow the tourism industry in Longford over the coming years. Longford County Council need to work alongside local and national representatives to ensure we are best placed to take advantage of the investment potential on offer by companies such as Center Parcs.
"This planning application is a step forward for the project, but it is important that we continue to work hard to secure the development and bring much needed jobs to Longford over the coming years."
