Call For North-South Interconnector To Be Placed Underground

Sinn Féin is once again calling for the North-South Interconnector to be put underground.

The party has also drafted the North-South Interconnector Bill 2016 and put it before the Dáil on Thursday, 14 January.

Sinn Féin Senator Kathryn Reilly said the concerns of the community are "very real".

Senator Reilly said: "The people and communities concerned have outlined their position for a number of years now and that is that the North-South Interconnector must go underground.

"Therefore, I am using this opportunity to call on all local TDs and Senators to pledge their support for this Bill and for those who have not supported the campaign over the past number of years to reflect on their failure to push for undergrounding while in government.

"The communities of Cavan and Monaghan have been let down on this issue, despite having a government Minister and many local Fine Gael TDs in government. This same failure is reflective of what happened when Fianna Fáil were in government."
