Sinn Féin has promised to restore the historic buildings on Moore Street in Dublin if elected to government.

MLA and Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín said it needs to be preserved for future generations.

She said: "As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising it is fitting we ensure that future generations are not denied the experience of seeing at first hand the buildings and artifacts central to that rebellion."

Dublin's North Inner City, Mary Lou McDonald said: "It is an absolute disgrace that the concerned relatives of the 1916 leaders have been forced to take this Government to the High Court this week, and again next Tuesday in order to protect and save the Moore Street terrace from demolition in this centenary year of the 1916 Rising.

"As the Sinn Féin public representative for Dublin Central, which includes the historic Moore Street, I wish to reaffirm our party's commitment to protect and restore the entire Moore Street terrace, numbers 10-25, as the site of the last act of the 1916 Easter Rising, if elected to Government in the coming weeks."
