The Government is once again being urged to scrap the water charges.
Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan said the government needs to "withdraw" the Irish River Basin Management Submission and amend it to reflect the election result before the 22 March deadline.
She said: "The majority of TDs elected to the new Dáil stood on an anti-water charges platform.
"Unfortunately Fianna Fáil despite its election rhetoric yesterday sided with Fine Gael to block a Sinn Féin motion for a debate on water charges and Irish water.
"We need to be very clear.
"There is no obligation on Ireland to introduce water charges. This might be the EU Commission's preferred method but it is it is not the only way."
