Plans for a new facility to be developed at Aughnacloy College in Co Tyrone are to be discussed by the Department for Social Development (DSD).

The DSD is to work with the college over plans for a new 6,600 sq m multi-purpose synthetic playing field within the grounds to be developed.

Plans for the facility include shared usage by both the school and the local community and will enhance sports provision within the school campus for a range of field sports and facilitate all year round usage for local sports organisations and voluntary and community groups.

Social Development Minister Lord Morrow said: "Although the proposals are at a very early stage I am keen for my Department to explore these further with the College. I have therefore asked officials in my Department who have experience of working with organisations to develop capital projects to provide Aughancloy College with the necessary advice and support to move the plans forward. If successful this multi-purpose 3G pitch will be of benefit not only to the people who live in Aughnacloy but the wider community."
