NI construction firm Farrans has won a £10 million contract been to build a new academy in Bromley-by-Bow in Stratford.
The new East London Arts and Music Academy (ELAM) is to be located on a restricted site directly adjacent to the A12 approach to the Blackwall Tunnel.
The design and build project, designed with Hunters South Architects, will see the construction of a 3150m2 teaching space for 300 trainees aged between 16 and 19.
The scheme was awarded through the Education Funding Agency's Free School Programme.
The building consists of piled foundations with structural framing and is cladded with aluminium curtain walling. Internally, the building will be finished to a high specification, complete with a suite of live recording studios and control rooms.
