Thieves attempted to steal fertiliser in the Mayobridge area in Co Down on Sunday night.

The SDLP is urging farming families and local people to exercise extra vigilance and to safeguard their properties.

SDLP Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said: "I would also appeal to people to look out for their neighbours, this is a tight knit community so it's important that we all have each other's back.

"If anyone notices anything suspicious, I would encourage them to report it to the police as soon as possible."
