A large boulder has fallen at the Sceilg Mhichíl/Skellig Michael island in Co Kerry, just days before it was scheduled to reopen.
Staff from the Office of Public Works and a safety contractor are currently at the scene assessing the scale of the problem.
The boulder broke free from the slope above the Lighthouse Road and landed in the middle of the roadway, directly onto the path taken by visitors travelling up to the base of the South Steps leading to the Monastic site at the Island's summit.
The road remains blocked and the appointed contractor is assessing the problem.
