Significant progress is being made on an underground cabling project in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.
The work, by Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks), includes installing high voltage underground electricity cables along the Glenavy, Brokerstown and Lough Roads to connect around 25MW of solar PV farms to a major substation in the city.
The first phase of work has been completed and NIE Networks teams will start work on the Glenavy Road from Monday 04 July until the end of August.
The road will be closed from the junction with Brokerstown Road to the junction at Sheepwalk Road with diversions in place via Prince William Road, Lady Wallace Avenue, Pond Park Road East, Mullaghglass Road and Sheepwalk Road.
Shirley Devlin, NIE Networks Customer Relations Manager for the Lisburn area, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience to motorists and residents in the local area and thank them for their patience while our contractors carry out essential cable installation in the area. We will be using four teams to work concurrently along the Glenavy Road, reducing the time taken to complete the project."
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year with energisation in 2017.
