Approximately 124 homes in Co Kilkenny have been issued with a boil water notice following advice from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
Irish Water is currently working on the Galmoy Replacement Water Supply Scheme and the Galmoy Group Water Supply Scheme.
Following sampling and testing by the firm at the reservoir of the water treatment plant, it was found that the disinfection of treated water may have been compromised.
The accumulation of silt in the reservoir over time has been identified as the cause and arrangements are being made to clean the reservoir.
A 'Boil Water' notice is to remain in place until the work is completed.
Irish Water is arranging for the cleaning and disinfection of the treated water reservoir as a priority.
When the reservoir cleaning works are complete Irish Water will submit all its results to the HSE, who will decide when the notice can be lifted.
