An apprentice at NIE Networks has graduated from Queen's University in Belfast.
Joanna Barclay from the Ardoyne area in north Belfast is the first apprentice to graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Joanna joined NIE Networks as an overhead lines apprentice in 2010. After completing her apprenticeship she applied for the NIE Networks' Apprentice to Graduate programme. Joanna has now started as a graduate engineer with NIE Networks as part of its overhead line and substation team.
Raymond McMenemy, Technical Training Manager at NIE Networks, said: "Congratulations to Joanna on her recent graduation. The Apprentice to Graduate scheme is an excellent way for us to recruit electrical engineers. We need to recruit a significant number of graduate engineers to work on the electricity grid over the next decade and this is another method of supporting our graduate programme and encourages continuous development within the apprenticeship."
