A new public library has been opened in Co Cork.
Community Minister Simon Coveney unveiled the new Hollyhill Library in Knocknaheeny today, 19 September.
A total of €1.5 million was invested in the project by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government.
Designed by Cork City Council architects, the new library will serve around 6,600 households in the northwestern suburbs of Cork City, specifically the Hollyhill/Knocknaheeny area, Gurranebraher/Churchfield, Sunday's Well, Clogheen and the north western environs of the city.
In addition, the facility was placed second in the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2016 – Public Choice Award.
On opening the library, Minister Coveney noted the commitment of the city council and said: "Without Cork City Council's commitment to the project and its investment of some €2.5 million, we wouldn't be here today opening this wonderful community facility.
"Our public libraries create great opportunities for the communities they serve. This wonderful facility realises the potential and promise of a modern, evolving library service."
