Almost 3,000 people are currently homeless in Dublin.
According to a report from the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive 1,357 are adults and 2,065 are children.
Chair of Dublin City Council's housing committee Cllr Daithí Doolan described the figures as "shocking".
He said: "The time for lectures and debate are over. City Councillors, Council management and Minister Coveney must work together to build housing and deliver homes for Dublin. Councillors must step up to the challenge too. There can be no room for NIMBYism from elected representatives.
"The government's budget promised an increase of 50% funding for housing, totaling €1,2221,469m. It can not be used to shore the private rented sector. That money must be fast tracked to Dublin City Council. We have over 20 sites waiting to be developed for housing.
"We have land and plans. All we need is the funding to make the housing crisis history."
