A €750,000 fund has been announced to improve rural towns and villages in Cavan-Monaghan.
The money is being allocated under the Rural Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
It is understood Monaghan town will receive €100,000 of the fund, while Cavan town, Cootehill and Virginia have secured €85,000 each.
Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Niamh Smyth, called for the funding to be paid to local authorities "as soon as possible".
"This funding is a welcome step to revitalising our rural towns and villages," she said. "Many of them were left behind by Fine Gael and Labour's two-tier recovery agenda, and are now in much need of investment.
"The €750,000 allocation will go some way to address this imbalance; however it is essential that the funding is made available as soon as possible."
She added: "Under the terms of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, funding can be used revitalise rural areas, and projects will be undertaken in consultation with the local authorities and local community groups. These could include tourism amenities, playgrounds or family activity areas or investing in public art pieces."
