Construction work on a watermains rehabilitation scheme in Maynooth, Co Kildare, is expected to start in January 2017.
Irish Water is investing €250,000 in the project and a contractor is to be appointed before the end of the year.
The project will replace 530 metres of ageing mains and also includes the replacement of 110 water service connections located in backyards and in private properties which will improve water pressure for customers, reduce leakage in the network and reduce disruption to homeowners when a repair or maintenance is required.
Ivan Corcoran, Programme Specialist for the East and Midlands Region, said: "The replacement of defective old water mains in Maynooth Town will ensure customers will have a more reliable and secure water supply. Leakage in the network will also be reduce as the aging watermains is replaced with new heavy duty plastic pipes. This project is part of our ongoing investment in Ireland's water infrastructure."
