Intel Ireland have submitted a planning application to build a new chip manufacturing plant at its Headquarters in Leixlip.
Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North Frank O'Rourke welcomed the application.
He said: "Intel's parent company in the US has yet to decide where it will set up the new manufacturing plant. Ireland is competing with other locations, most notably Israel, to land the investment. It is very positive that Intel Ireland have now lodged this planning application to assist with securing this investment.
"We have a low corporate Tax, a flexible and well educated workforce, relatively calm industrial relations and a pro enterprise approach to enable businesses perform successfully."
