A new €140million flood relief scheme to help protect over 2,000 properties in Cork has been welcomed by Fine Gael.

Cork Senator, Jerry Buttimer, said he is "delighted" to see the details of the project.

He said: "I am very happy to hear that construction of flood barriers is due to begin next year.

"The flood plan involves the use of walls and embankments, a new flood forecasting system for the River Lee, revised operating procedures for the ESB dams on the Lee and Drainage improvements"

The new scheme is on Public Exhibition until the 20 of January 2016 at the following locations:

• The Foyer, Civic Offices, Anglesea St., Cork.

• The Foyer, County Hall, Carrigrohane Rd, Cork.

• Public Library, Ballincollig, Cork.

• Central Library, Grand Parade, Cork.
