Sinn Féin is urging the Cabinet to support the Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform's announcement to speed up the construction of the Metro North Rail Link.
Minister Paschal Donhoe confirmed an additional €2.6 billion is being made available up to 2021 in its five-year programme for capital investment.
He called for the rail link between Dublin Airport and the city centre to be finished two years early.
Dublin North West TD Dessie Ellis said: "For years I have been calling on successive Governments to increase the transport capacity for the north side of Dublin and a major aspect of that included the Metro North project which was included in the 2015 capital programme and was due to be completed in 2026 or 2027, with construction beginning in 2021.
"The completion of the Metro North project earlier that anticipated would have a positive effect on Dublin and that is why the Cabinet should support the Ministers proposal."
