Sinn Féin's Raymond McCartney has welcomed the official opening of the new North West Cancer Centre at Altnagelvin Hospital.
Attending the opening alongside Health Minister Michelle O'Neill and Elisha McCallion, Mr McCartney said the facility is a boost for all-Ireland healthcare.
He said: "The opening of the North West Cancer Centre at Altnagelvin is a great addition to health provision in the north west and a boost for all-Ireland healthcare as it will provide first-class treatment for patients from Derry, Tyrone and Donegal.
"This is good news for the North West region and all those who have lobbied and campaigned hard to have the new Radiotherapy Unit located at Altnagelvin Hospital.
"This new facility will make a dramatic impact on the lives of cancer sufferers as it will mean that the vast majority of patients will be able to receive radiotherapy treatment within one hour travelling distance of their homes."
